Top of the Rock, Empire State Building, One World Observatory or Edge? Which is best and, if we have to choose, which should we visit? There is no easy answer, but here are some facts to help guide your choice.

Edge NYC Observation Deck

  • Empire State Building - (86 and 102 floors) Best for patient movie and history buffs who need to check it off their bucket list. Recently redone indoor 102nd Floor Observatory
  • Top of the Rock - (67-70 floors) Best for sweeping 360° vista views, including of the Empire State Building and Central Park. Shorter lines and cheaper than the ESB.

Little Island NYC Opens Spring 2021

Little Island NYC

Opens May 21, 2021
Pier 55 & Hudson River Park Greenway, NY 10014
Roughly 14th St, West of Chelsea Market

NYC’s new Little Island in the Hudson River resembles a leaf floating on water with a base of tulip-shaped pots and will offer seating lawns, gentle slopes, winding pathways leading to dazzling views, and a variety of spaces for performances, play rest and relaxation. The island is open 6am-1am daily, but you must reserve your free spot if visiting 12:00- 8:00 pm daily.

Perform in the Park, Events in the Amph ++

Little Island offers a diverse mix of programs, experiences, shows and events. The majority of events in the park will be presented free or at a low cost, to create an environment that is inclusive and welcoming to visitors of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. NYC Pride, Parade and Festival

NYC Pride Week

Pride Island, PrideFest, The March
June 17-27, 2021
Hudson St (Abingdon Sq. & W 14th)

Pride is the city’s premiere "LGBTQIA+" celebration and (sort of) celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2020. There’s a ton of events including The Rally, The March & Pride Island. The 2021 theme is “The Fight Continues.” Please check the site for 2021 updates.

Filled with a series of fabulous and fun events, the festivities begin with Family Night and the Rally and culminate with the Pride Parade, typically held on the last day of the week in late June. Also held on the last day are the Pride Festival, along with the annual Dance on the Pier, following the parade wrapping up Pride Week in a grand fireworks display.

New York City LGBT Hotels

It almost seems stupid to write specifically about LGBTQ-friendly hotels in NYC, because all of our hotels welcome everyone and NYC takes great pride (pun intended) in our diversity. There was actually a very popular ad once that read, "NYC: Tolerant of Your Beliefs, Judgmental of Your Shoes," which is pretty true! However, there are some hotels that really shine when welcoming the LGBTQIA+ community and we highlight a few of those properties here.

The GuestHouse at Dream Downtown Jacuzzi

  • Dream Downtown - right by Union Square and the Meatpacking District, the Dream Downtown has a huge outdoor swimming pool surrounded by sand and often hosts beach parties, filled with models of all types (photo - private jacuzzi room)
  • The High Line Hotel - proud member of IGLTA who welcomes same sex weddings in its historic Refectory and the chapel at the General Theological Seminary.
  • Chelsea Pines Inn - gay-owned in NYC's premier gay neighborhood, consistently rated a best value hotel in NYC, a top pick on misterbandb and self proclaimed as "NYC’s premier urban bed and breakfast."
