Shakespeare in the Park 2012

Every year, stars such as Meryl Streep, Al Pacino and James Earl Jones perform modern interpretations of various Shakespeare plays in Central Park at the 1,800 seat open-air theater and they are attended by over 80,000 people. This year’s casts include: Oliver Platt, Amy Adams, Denis O’Hare, Donna Murphy, Chip Zien, Glenn Close and lots more.

2012 plays are As You Like It (June 5-30) and Into the Woods (July 23-Aug 25)

Here’s the catch – tickets are FREE, but very difficult to get! Tickets are available only on the day of the show in one of three ways: in person at Central Park, in person in one of the Boroughs or by online lottery.

Each year, for 3 weeks, Tues-Sun, Midsummer Night Swing turns Lincoln Center into a hopping open-air dance hall with blazing live bands laying down the rhythms you love, from swing to salsa, tango, funk, disco, and more.

The dance party is equally fun to watch, or participate and draws a huge crowd.

Gay Pride Week is a celebration of PRIDE, in NYC and beyond. Filled with a series of fabulous and fun events, the festivities begin with the Rally and culminate with the NYC Gay Pride Parade, typically held on the last day of the week in late June. Also held on the last day are the Gay Pride Festival, along with the annual Dance on the Pier, following the parade wrapping up Gay Pride Week in a grand fireworks display.

Founded in 2002, following September 11, 2001, the River to River Festival is a world-class performing arts festival originally intended as tool for the revitalization of Lower Manhattan. Now in its 11th season, the Festival is the largest summer-long free arts festival in New York City’s history and has not only assisted in renewal, but transformed Downtown into a major cultural destination during the summer.

The festival takes place in a variety of public venues that canvas all of Downtown New York – from Chambers Street down to the southern tip of Manhattan and across the island from river to river.
