Midsummer Night Swing at Lincoln Center

Each year, for 3 weeks, Tues-Sun, Midsummer Night Swing turns Lincoln Center into a hopping open-air dance hall with blazing live bands laying down the rhythms you love, from swing to salsa, tango, funk, disco, and more.

The dance party is equally fun to watch, or participate and draws a huge crowd.

Performing in Central Park

July 13-19, 2010, 8pm

The New York Philharmonic performs Tchaikovsky, Gershwin and more outside on the Great Lawn in Central Park a few nights every summer. Always a quintessential NYC experience and always free. The performance is followed by gorgeous fireworks.

Thousands of New Yorkers spread out their blankets, bring picnics and snacks (and some even sneak wine..shhhh!). Check the schedule, bring a sweater, snacks and some type of candle or flashlight.

For the second year, the Macy’s July 4th Fireworks will be launched over the Hudson River, on the West Side of Manhattan. With more than 3 million spectators and millions of television viewers nationwide, this year’s revelry promises to cap off America’s birthday celebrations with a bang.

Honoring America’s 234th birthday, Macy’s (NYSE:M) will fire more than 40,000 pyrotechnic shells during the 26-minute synchronized display. Designed in collaboration with SOUSA Fireworks, the show will be set off from six barges positioned in midtown Manhattan on the Hudson River. The showstopping display will fire approximately 1,500 shells per minute reaching heights of more than 1,000 feet, giving millions of spectators magnificent views.

World Team Tennis, 35th Season – Randall’s Island


July 5-19, 2010
Tickets start at $40.


This summer’s hottest sporting event in Manhattan is World TeamTennis on Randall’s Island with superstars like Andy Roddick, James Blake, Serena Williams, Kim Clijsters and the legendary John McEnroe doing battle so close to you that you can almost touch them.

The New York Sportimes play 7 home matches in July between the 5th and the 19th against opponents in the Eastern Conference of World Team Tennis. That just leaves one question. Are You In Or Out? Ticket holders have access to a free luxury bus service from Manhattan’s East Side.

The Met’s annual concerts in New York City parks is a great city tradition. This year, the Summer Recital Series, returns with six performances in the parks of all five boroughs. The series kicks off with a concert at Central Park SummerStage on July 12, featuring acclaimed baritone Nathan Gunn.

River to River Festival


June – August

Founded in 2002, following September 11, 2001, the River to River Festival is a world-class performing arts festival originally intended as tool for the revitalization of Lower Manhattan. Now in its 8th season, the Festival is the largest summer-long free arts festival in New York City’s history and has not only assisted in renewal, but transformed Downtown into a major cultural destination during the summer.

The festival takes place in a variety of public venues that canvas all of Downtown New York – from Chambers Street down to the southern tip of Manhattan and across the island from river to river.
