I will be in NYC March 22-24 with my 11 yr. old granddaughter that is a fashionista. I have booked her for the ‘fashion tour’..she IS mature enough…do you have any other suggestions (FIT Museum I will also do)? Also, which of your books are the best for me…the subways scare me to death..the bus tours are fine and I will do those also…
Thanks for any suggestions..

NYC Insider Guide Answer:

Hi Bonnie! How awesome you are taking your granddaughter to NYC! So first, what ‘fashion tour’ have you booked? That will help me help you, so I know what you’re already doing.

Second, fashion and shopping can be separate things. Of course, the Garment District offers the Fashion Walk of Fame and Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) Museum, where the current Japan Fashion Show is very cool! But even though it is the Fashion District of NYC, the shopping is not always accessible.

For your granddaughters age group, I recommend the shopping in the Flatiron Area, 5th Ave b/w 15th and 23rd St, BCBG, Espirit, Banana Republic, J. Crew, Juicy Couture, H&M, Gap, Zara, Club Monaco, SoHo and Nolita.

And don’t forget to check the newly expanded New York City Shopping Guide, showing you our shopping secrets including, NYC Designer Sample Sales, Department Stores, Discount Stores, Resale Shops, Outlet Stores and New York City Shopping Tours.

The NYC subway is perfectly safe, as long as you stay in Manhattan, and is so much fun! Last night, I got to Madison Square Garden in 4 minutes for a huge tennis event, and was home in less than 10 minutes. You couldn’t pay me to travel any other way – the taxi line was an hour long just to get into a cab! Enjoy your trip.
