Wavy Gravy’s 75th Birthday: A benefit concert for Seva Foundation featuring Jackson Browne, Ani DiFranco, Steve Earle, Bruce Hornsby, Dr. John, Jorma Kaukonen and more.
Friday May 27th 8:00 pm, Beacon Theatre - New York.
Bay Area cultural icon Wavy Gravy is turning 75 this year – and you’re invited to his party! Wavy Gravy will host a benefit concert on Friday May 27th at the Beacon Theatre in New York. The show will feature a legendary lineup of musicians, performing alone and together, including Jackson Browne, Ani DiFranco, Steve Earle, Allison Moorer, Bruce Hornsby, Dr. John, Jorma Kaukonen, Steve Kimock, Buffy Sainte-Marie and surprise guests.
The Beacon Theatre, located at 2124 Broadway, is an intimate, 2,800 seat New York City venue known for its flawless acoustics and art deco décor. Many of the greatest names in music have performed at the Beacon.
Tickets are $50 to $200 and go on sale March 31st through ticketmaster.com – 800-653-8000. A limited amount of VIP tickets are available through Seva Foundation. VIP tickets are $500 and include a seat in the orchestra pit, a collectable laminate pass and a limited edition silkscreened event poster, signed by Wavy Gravy. VIP’s will be able to mingle with Wavy Gravy and select artists at the after show reception, to be held at Citrus Bar & Grill located at 320 Amsterdam Ave., across street from the Beacon. The reception starts when the show ends and goes until 2:00 AM. Visit www.seva.org
Seva Foundation is a California based non-profit organization, founded by Wavy Gravy Ram Dass, Larry Brilliant and a group of renowned public health experts. “Seva” is a Sankrit word meaning “service to humankind.” Seva Foundation works in the poorest corners of the globe providing financial resources and technical expertise that help communities build sustainable solutions to poverty and disease. With an emphasis on curable and preventable blindness, Seva-supported programs have restored sight to more than 3 million people in Asia and Africa. In the U.S. Seva works with Native American communities on the prevention of diabetes and other chronic health issues.
“We are extremely grateful to Wavy Gravy and all of the musicians performing in support of Seva,” said Seva’s Executive Director, Jack Blanks. “Their generosity, along with donations from New York audience members, will support Seva’s programs that restore sight to the blind, train doctors in places where there are few, and bring services to indigenous communities around the world. Seva is a Sanskrit word meaning “service,” and we welcome you to join in helping Seva serve those in need around the world.”
