JFK Airport Guide

JFK Airport Guide, about 15 miles and 45-60 minutes from Manhattan, is a huge international airport. JFK serves over 70 airlines and hubs include American and Delta. A taxi to Midtown is a flat rate of $52, for up to 4 people.

Hotels with Free Shuttles JFK Airport

There are lots of great hotel choices near JFK for those needing to stay close to the airport. Each of these hotels offers a free shuttle to and from JFK.

TWA Hotel @ JFK Airport

Opened in May 2019, the TWA Hotel is NYC’s newest, and by far most luxurious, airport hotel. The rooftop infinity pool and observation deck, which overlooks JFK’s runway, is open year-round and in winter, the pool will turn into a ‘pool-cuzzi.’ The iconic architecture of the TWA terminal @ JFK is a landmark known by every true New Yorker and it is exciting to see it come to life again, with full 1960’s retro everything, and the world’s "quietest hotel rooms." The 512-room hotel offers multiple dining options, including a lounge by the Gerber group, a Jean-Georges restaurant and the Connie Bar cocktail lounge, housed in a converted Lockheed Constellation plane.

Reader Question: Are there Hotels with FREE shuttles into Manhattan?

NYC Insider Guide Answer: No. There are almost no hotels in NYC that offer free shuttles into Manhattan. I say almost, just in case I’ve missed something, but really, the answer is none. There are free shuttles to most of the hotels near the airports, but not to Manhattan hotels.

JFK Taxi Car Shuttle Costs

JFK to Midtown is a flat rate of $52 by taxi. Whether you choose taxi, town car, shuttle or public transportation is your choice depending on the number of people and how much luggage you have.

AirTrain JFK provides easy access to both the Long Island Rail Road and MTA’s New York City subway and bus system, with connections at both the Jamaica and Howard Beach station stops

JFK Town Car Service

A popular and well-liked NYC Town Car Service company is Carmel.

There's hardly any difference in price or service, as NYC Limos, also called "black cars" or "town cars," are very competitive. Their rates tend to be very similar to taxis, and many times, even less with online coupons and specials.

JFK Shuttle Bus Service

Most shuttles are currently on hold for now - please consider a private transfer.

NYC Airport Shuttle Bus

One advantage of shuttles is you do not have to pay tolls or round trip fares.

Go Airlink Airport Shuttle Bus - door to door service. LGA/JFK/EWR.

NYC Express Bus - pick up and drop off at one of several central Manhattan locations with free transfer to smaller hotel vans once in Manhattan. JFK/LGA only.

Airport Shuttle Buses charge per person, while taxis and NYC Limos are one rate for up to 4 people (or more for larger limos). However, shuttle and van services vary when it comes to taking you door to door, and many will drop you off (or pick you up) only at a central Manhattan location. Some offer another complimentary car that will transfer you to your stop. Some will not and you can walk, take the subway or hail a taxi that will likely be around $10.

JFK, LGA, EWR Luggage Storage New York

JFK Airport offers baggage storage in Terminals 4 & 8. Neither LaGuardia Airport or Newark Airport offer onsite luggage storage. However, there are many companies near all three airports that offer luggage storage starting at $5.95 per day per bag. For example, Vertoe offers storage locations all over New York City as well as near JFK, LGA and Newark Airports.

Parking at JFK Airport

Like most airports, JFK offers both short and long term parking with shuttle service to the terminals. A day of daily parking at JFK will cost $35 in short term lots and less than $10 in the longer term lots.

Local parking lots with airport shuttle service start at just $18 per day and many offer perks like a car wash or oil change while you are away. Reserving online, in advance, will almost always offer you the best deal. There are tons of places to check to save BIG on airport parking:

  • Airport Parking Reservations - great rates, nice website, reviews, large selection
  • Groupon Airport Deals - amazing selection of huge discounts at all three major NYC airports. Parking deals, shuttles, limos, hotel packages and more.
  • ParkNFly - 5% Off Online Reservations
  • Stay and Fly Hotel Packages - hotels with free parking, sometimes making it cheaper to spend a night at a hotel and then get free parking for a week
  • SpotHero - excellent app for all NYC Parking with discounts and availability. Use promo code "MYFIVE" for $5 off your first spot.

Insider Tip: Take a photo of your parking valet ticket, especially before a long trip, and if, like me, you are prone to "vacation brain" and will likely misplace your ticket.
