New York City celebrates the Chinese New Year with a Firecracker Ceremony, Cultural Festival and a New Year Parade followed by another Festival.

After the firecrackers, a traditional Lunar New Year practice believed to scare away evil spirits, join the opening ceremonies, a dozen Lion, Dragon and Unicorn dance troupes marching down the main streets of Chinatown. A massive festival in the heart of Chinatown will feature all-day cultural performances by traditional and contemporary Asian and Asian-American signers and dancers, along with promotional booths.

13th Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade & Festival
January 29, 2012 | Sunday | 1:00pm
A colorful spectacle featuring floats, marching bands, lion and dragon dancers, antique cars, beauty queens, Asian musical performers, magicians and acrobats, and local organizations.
