New York Broadway Shows
... secrets to half price New York Theater tickets
New York Broadway Shows comprise some of the the best plays and musicals in the world. To be a NYC Broadway Show, a show must run in one of the 39 theaters considered Broadway houses, and only these NYC Broadway shows are eligible for Tony Awards. Before we get into the 39 NYC Broadway Shows and how to get half price tickets, I'm going to let you in on a real New York Insider Broadway Tip...
Off Broadway Shows - the real "Must Sees"
A real New Yorker knows to never underestimate the entertainment value of an Off Broadway Show! These shows are run in the hundreds of other theaters and playhouses around New York City and are much cheaper than their Broadway counterparts.

RENT - Adam and Idina on the left
One of the very first Off Broadway Shows I attended was to support two high school friends of mine, Adam Pascal and Idina Menzel, both of whom I'd heard sing all through our school years. The musical, a rock opera, got rave reviews and went on to become the famous New York Broadway Show, RENT. Idina then went on to star in Aida and as Elphaba in the Broadway musical Wicked. Adam has since performed in Aida and Cabaret and both continue to have very successful musical and acting careers.
Which would you rather do? Pay $200 per ticket to see it on Broadway after the reviews or pay $20 to see the show on it's true opening night...

NYC Insider Tip - Matinée or Evening Show?
NYC Broadway show evening performances start at 8pm and shows usually run 2.5-3 hours, so prepare to eat dinner either at 6:00 pm or 11:00 pm. Consider your day plans before you commit to a show time.
A matinée may just be the ideal time (it's my favorite), especially for kids. You may find it preferable to make the most of your morning and take in the sights, enjoy a leisurely lunch or picnic in Central Park, be in the show from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm and get out in time for a cocktail, or to head back to your room to relax and shower before heading out for an amazing night on the town!
New York Broadway Shows - Getting Tickets
For evening performances, New York Broadway Show Tickets, on average, run $65-$125 for regular seating and $300 for premium seating. Sometimes a Matinée is less expensive and they are usually performed on Wednesday and Sunday at 2:00pm.
