NYC Insider Guide Diary
Living life in NYC moves a lot faster than I can write this website, so I was jotting notes to myself as reminders of what I did that I could put on NYC Insider Guide at a later date.
Then I thought, "Hey, why not let my site visitors in on my personal life?" It's mostly just notes to myself, but reading through will give you a great sense of Shows, Restaurants, Things to Do, NYC Events and lots more. Enjoy!
March 2010
God of Carnage Broadway Show and dinner at The City Tavern
Birthday party at DON'T TELL MAMA, (343 W 46th, 8th/9th Aves). Cool piano bar in heart of Times Square on Restaurant Row. Sadly was sick...:(
Great fundraiser at Hudson Terrace (621 W 46th, 11th/12th Aves). Close to Times Square, great views of Intrepid and Times Square. 3rd Floor open to public, Fri and Sat nights with a DJ and a huge terrace, open in summer, enclosed in winter.
Feb 2010
Central Park in the snow, NY Historical Society (next to AMNH) - Grateful Dead exhibit, dinner at Shalel (70th & Col). Awesome romantic Moroccan place - caves, waterfalls, candles and rose petals everywhere.
The Gates, 290 8th Ave (24th/25th) - cool Chelsea club for BDay party, fireplace, lounges, good vibe
Dinner at Gotham (12 E 12th St), bday drinks for friend at Downtown Galway Hooker Pub Street (133 7th Ave S, W 10th) - dive bar, fun for 20s crowd.
Jan 2010
Gemma, Italian at Bowery Hotel. Good Italian food (not the best), great crowd, a little noisy. Always love the hotel lobby next door with leather club chairs and fireplace.
Drinks at swanky LES lounge, La Caverna, very cool atmosphere - like a cave bar with waterfalls. 122 Rivington Street (Essex and Norfolk)
2009
Birthday Dinner at Del Posto (Mario Batali) - UN BELIEVABLE! Worth every penny, very fine dining without stuffiness. Perfect for a special occasion.
Lunch at Molyvos, (7th Ave 55th and 56th) - excellent Greek, small plates, near Central Park
Blue Ribbon Brasserie (GV, Sullivan b/w Spring and Prince)- excellent, high end comfort food. Must like the menu and definitely make a reservation.
Accademia Di Vino - great Italian, lovely restaurant right near Bloomingdales. Extensive wine list. (63rd and 3rd Ave)
Crispo (14th and 8th Ave). Great Italian food and decor, hidden gem. Definitely try the Spagetti Carbonara, perfectly al dente with the egg on top.
Sushi at Shima (12th and 2nd Ave). Good sushi, better than average, but more of a neighborhood spot than a destination. Spinach in peanut sauce appetizer - fabulous!
Pranna for a friend's birthday party. Hot club/restaurant, huge, well-decorated space with lots of smaller, private areas. Late night becomes more club, very diverse and international crowd, long lines. A hip, trendy spot.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Concerts - what a once in a lifetime experience (my date, not so much). Bruce Springsteen, Mick Jagger, Billy Joel, Bono, Sting, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Lenny Kravitz, Paul Simon, Art Garfunkel, Crosby Stills and Nash, Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica, Fergie, Patty Smith, Jeff Beck and many more. All joining in on each other's songs. WOW!
Top of the Rock personal tour by their delightful customer service manager, John. (write up coming soon!)
Pastis - always fun, french and delicious. Can never go wrong with Morandi, Pastis or Balthazar (same owners).
Interviewed to be New Yorker of the Month, November 2009. How flattering!! Saw Timothy Hutton and approached him - not something I normally do, but for the sake of the article.
Sushi at Haru, ice cream at the best place in NYC, Sundaes and Cones (E 10th St) - flavors Guava, Green Tea and Chocolate Fudge. Saw "Love Happens" - terrible.
Saw In The Heights, late snack at Angelo and Maxie's.
Charity event at Loeb Boathouse Central Park. FABULOUS - love that place. Beautiful at night with all the lights reflecting over the water. Quarter mile walk into and out of the park, and after 5 hrs of standing and dancing in 4 inch heels, not ONE person would get into any of Hansom Cabs waiting on the way out - so not a NYer thing to do:)
Gonzos for dinner, Italian, very cute converted brownstone. Good food, not the best, but reasonably priced.
Dinner at Alta, AMAZING Tapas in a converted brownstone (10th b/w 5th and 6th). Saw Chris Noth eating outside on way home at Il Cantinori, in town filming Sex and the City. Chatted for a bit - nice guy.
Saw Rock of Ages on Broadway, late dinner at Ruby Foo's
Dinner at Revel in MP. Delicious fish, beautiful decor, service mediocre. Walked the Highline after, very cool new spot. Nightcap at new Standard Hotel, saw John Stamos, in town starring in Bye Bye Birdie.
