NYC Insider Tip - Best Place to See Fireworks?

Personally, I think the BEST view of the Macy's fireworks is from a boat cruise on the water. Here's why...

On a cruise, you have cocktails, music, indoor and outdoor viewing, bathrooms, food and no waiting around all day.

If you want to watch them from land, be prepared for crowds, long waits, packing your food and drinks, carrying your stuff and umm...bathrooms? Good luck.

A hotel with a roof deck is also a great option, and Macy's has just announced the 2012 fireworks will again be on the Hudson River (West Side).

36th Annual Macy's 4th of July Fireworks

Macy's NYC July 4th Fireworks
Macy's July 4th Fireworks, Crashworks

Wednesday, July 4, 2012, 9:00pm

2011 Info (2012 updates arrive in June)
: Gift of Freedom, the theme of this year's pyrotechnic spectacular will pay special tribute to the 125th Anniversary year of the Statue of Liberty that has served for many generations as a beacon of hope and freedom for millions. Macy's July 4th Fireworks will be launched over the Hudson River, on the West Side of Manhattan.

With more than 3 million live spectators and millions tuned in nationwide, the Hudson River will be the showcase for more than 40,000 fireworks that together will ignite the sky for the nation's 235th birthday party. "Building on 34 years of success, we will ignite the skies of New York City with the nation's largest fireworks display celebrating Independence Day, as well as the 125th Anniversary of the Statue of Liberty."

Designed in collaboration with SOUSA Fireworks, the show sets off from six barges positioned in midtown Manhattan on the Hudson River. The show stopping display will fire approximately 1,500 shells per minute reaching heights of more than 1,000 feet, giving millions of spectators magnificent views. Viewing information and other spectator tips will be available in June 2012 at Macy's.

View the Fireworks Live:
The best viewing spots are along 12th Ave (23rd to 50th Streets). Pedestrians can access the 12th Avenue from 11th Avenue at 24th, 26th-30th, 34th, 40th-44th, 47th-52nd and 54th-57th streets.

12th Avenue will be closed below 59th beginning at 4pm for viewing and The West Side Highway will be closed to vehicles from 22nd-59th Street at 4pm. You can also view the Macy's Fourth of July fireworks from anywhere you have an unobstructed view of the sky above the Hudson River.
