Ticketmaster is probably the easiest way to get tickets to any Sporting, Broadway, Off Broadway or Concert event in NYC. Plus, you might already have an account with them and most tickets can be printed electronically. As always, if I come across any discount codes, I post them on my NYC Insider Scoop page, so check there first.
GoldStar Events
GoldStar is one of the sweetest secrets in New York City. You can sometimes get half price broadway tickets or half price or less tickets to every possible event - Sports, Tours, Sightseeing, Events, Broadway, Concerts, Sunset Cruises and other unique things. This is where all the venues sell their extra tickets at a huge discount. It's free to be a member, you just have to sign up.
StubHub
StubHub is specially great for New York Yankees Tickets. It is an eBay company, and a marketplace enabling fans to buy and sell tickets to sports, concert, theater and other live entertainment events. All transactions are processed and delivered by StubHub and backed by the company's FanProtect Guarantee™. Interesting note to New York - one of their partners is the New York Yankees. This is not a place for half price broadway tickets, but it is a great place for popular shows, concerts and sports events.
Craigslist

Only use CL is you are savvy and have used in your home town. And then, be a little more skeptical than you are at home.
So many tickets go last minute on here - this is where people who "all of a sudden have to work late," try and sell their tickets. Craigslist NYC can be trickier, as there are potential scam-artists on the site, and there is no monitoring or repercussions. You should NEVER send anyone money without having the tickets in your hand. Trust your gut - as you are exchanging emails with a potential seller, you should easily be able to gauge if they are legit or not. Most of the time if it sounds too good to be true, it is. So, while you may not get half price Broadway tickets, you may still get a significant discount.

There are countless ticket brokers in New York City who buy up tickets in bulk and resell them significantly above face value. Technically, this is illegal, but it is common practice. Many of the brokers are legitimate, just charge a lot of money. Ticket brokers should be used only if you are just dying to see a sporting or musical event.
